Sometimes sessions don’t go exactly as planned — and this one was worth the wait. After rescheduling twice due to unpredictable weather, this sweet boy arrived at my Albany studio just shy of four weeks old. While that’s outside the “typical” newborn window, it turned out to be a calm, cozy session filled with meaningful moments.
This is such a good reminder that newborn photography isn’t all-or-nothing.
The ideal window for newborn photography is often quoted as 7–14 days, but real life doesn’t always follow a perfect timeline. At around 3.5 weeks, babies tend to be a bit more alert and less flexible — which simply means the session shifts to meet them where they are.
For this session, we focused on:
simple, comfortable posing
natural settling and soothing
connection and quiet moments
As an Albany newborn photographer, my approach is always baby-led, no matter the age.
Even at almost four weeks old, we were able to document the tiny things parents never want to forget — soft lashes, wrinkled fingers, expressive features, and that fleeting newborn size that changes almost overnight.
These images may look a little different than a sleepier newborn session, but they’re just as timeless.
If you’re reading this and wondering if it’s “too late,” I want you to hear this clearly — it’s not.
If your baby is a few weeks old and you’re feeling how quickly this season is passing, there is still time to preserve it in a meaningful way.
Newborn photography is about remembering this chapter, not chasing perfection.
Newborn sessions are best booked during pregnancy, but availability does occasionally open for later sessions depending on timing. I photograph families throughout Albany NY, the Capital Region, and surrounding areas in my in-studio space.
